NEW YORK - Max Strus missed an open 3-pointer with one second remaining and Marquette held on for a 72-69 victory over DePaul at Madison Square Garden in the first round of the 2018 BIG EAST Conference Men's Basketball Championship, presented by Jeep.

Sam Hauser, who scored 14 points in the second half, hit a pair of free throws with 32 seconds left to put Marquette (19-12, 9-9 BIG EAST) up four before Strus hit a triple from the right wing to pull the Blue Demons within one, 70-69.

Rowsey then turned the ball over at midcourt after the inbounds and the Strus miss was grabbed by Rowsey who sunk another two free throws with tenths of a second remaining.
