HOWARD AND HAUSER PUSH MARQUETTE PAST NIU, 79-70

MILWAUKEE - Markus Howard and Sam Hauser each chipped in 20-point performances as Marquette mounted a second half comeback to down Northern Illinois, 79-70, on Monday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Howard posted his fifth-straight 20-point game with 26 points, while Hauser had 21, including 11 after the intermission. Both teams struggled from the floor, but the Golden Eagles (8-3) held on for the win while forcing the Huskies (6-5) to shoot 36.0 percent (9-of-25) in the second half. 

Marquette led 42-36 at the half, but NIU raced out to a 45-43 lead with a 9-1 start to the final half. 

Freshman Theo John posted career-bests of seven points and three blocks for Marquette, which saw the season-debut of transfer Harry Froling early in the first half. 

The Golden Eagles resume action at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Thursday, Dec. 21 against American. The game will be broadcast live on FS1 at 6 p.m. Central time.
